We found out I was pregnant at my yearly doctor’s appointment…boy was it a surprise. I was a little late but I didn’t think twice about it since I have never been regular. We were heading to ECU for homecoming weekend and my doctor told me that if I did blood work that afternoon that she would know before the weekend. Well thank you Quest Diagnostics for closing 10mins early on a Thursday afternoon!!! Needless to say I went to Homecoming weekend and had to fake drink the whole weekend…just in case. On Tuesday morning I got the call on my way into work, YES I was indeed pregnant and we scheduled my first ultrasound to confirm it. It took a while to set in with us both with mixed emotions of being scared to death but we were sooo excited too!
I had a pretty easy first trimester with only late afternoon nausea but no sickness…which some days I just wished I could get sick and make the nausea go away. Other than that, things went pretty smooth. We kept our little secret from everyone, even our parents until I was almost 12 weeks, which was hard but we both wanted to make sure that everything was going ok. Our whole family went to Pennsylvania for Christmas so we decided to come up with a clever way to tell them. It’s our tradition to open one gift on Christmas Eve and we decided to get everyone baby blankets with “Grandma & Grandpa”, “Aunt Jennifer”, and “Grandma Sue”, and let them open them on Christmas Eve. One main reason too because our families are big drinkers and I just couldn’t find an excuse not to have an “Arlene Frederick lunch-time martini” or she would know something was up. So after breakfast they opened them and the first words were, “Oh thanks Sadie”….they all thought the blankets were from our puppy…go figure! Then they finally caught on and were all so excited for us. The first grandbaby for both sides.
We kept things quiet until 15 weeks and then we told our close friends and then eventually everyone knew. I still wanted to wait a bit just to make sure things were going ok but Chris was about to bust to tell. I didn’t really feel pregnant so it didn’t seem real for me. That is until around week 17-18 and I started to feel the baby move. That was such an exciting time for me and for the first time I felt like I was pregnant. Since I still was not showing and hadn’t gained but about 2 pounds and was feeling great, feeling the baby move made it all real. Now at 22.5 weeks baby Frederick moves all day! He is an active little one! Guess you figured it out…baby Frederick is a boy!!
So up to today, I am just under 23 weeks and am still feeling great. We just returned from our baby-moon to Jamaica and had a wonderful time. It was really nice to get away with Chris before the baby comes in July. Also, new this week baby Frederick decided to make an appearance. Everyone said I would pop on vacation because it’s usually around that 22 week mark that you start to show and boy am I ever. When we left, I was still wearing my normal work pants but slightly unbuttoned with a camisole over the top and then this morning I realized those days were over. Thank goodness Mom Arlene converted several of my pants into maternity pants this past week so I had something to wear. She did a great job and they fit perfectly!! My belly is funny looking as baby Frederick like to sit low. So it looks like a ski slope and I can comfortably rest my arms on my tummy…haha! I will post pictures of vacation and also the growing bump soon.
Other fun things…
We ordered our furniture and it should be here in 10 weeks or so. We both really wanted white furniture so that it would work for either a girl or boy and we could use it for more than one baby. I found a set by Pali that is a distressed cottage white and I fell in love with it. And thanks to Andi for going with me to confirm that it is beautiful! It is all wood and very sturdy and converts into a full size bed. The thing we liked most about this set is that it actually converts into a pretty bed which so many of the sets have a really high footboard and look kind of silly unless you get a huge mattress set. This one has a curved front/footboard and looks pretty. We also ordered the dresser and nightstand to match. Here’s a picture of how it looks before and then converted. We almost went with the dark wood but then decided that the white would look best in our room.

Bedding…
So we painted the room a pale Robin’s Egg Blue when we first moved in because I had planned to make the room my Shabby Chic room. Now that baby Frederick is coming we really wanted to avoid re-painting and because I just love the color so much. So it’s been hard finding bedding that matches the color. I finally found a company that custom makes bedding and placed the order today. Such a cute site... www.polkatotdesigns.com It was a little pricey but by the time we buy the supplies to re-paint and then buy normal bedding, it would be about the same price. So Chris gave me the OK to buy what I wanted. I have the swatches and as soon as it comes in, I will post a picture. It’s pale robin’s egg blues, white, light tan and dark tan and I just LOVE it! We plan to also custom order a chair in tan and white check.
Well, hope this all catches you up a little and I will make weekly updates with pictures to keep you all updated.
Love,
Jennifer, Chris & baby boy!
